How to log in
A. How to log on to the wireless network
-
On your tablet PC, find a button with an icon that looks like
a satellite dish located on top of the key boards.

After pushing the button, wait for a message popping up at the
lower right corner of the monitor saying you are connected to the network and
click on the icon named "Pal" on your desktop.

Now, you are prompted to type in your login information which
is the same as your career account.
B. How to log in the class website
-
Open browser and enter the course address:
http://rebar.ecn.purdue.edu/ce526/

Type in your initial login information provided by the course
instructor.

The temporary password will be the same as your login.
You will be able to change your password later on, as your wish.

Windows Journal
You may use Windows Journal to add comments to
lectures by directly writing on the screen using the pen.
A. How to import "MS Word document" into "Windows
Journal"

Find the icon named "Windows Journal" in the Start menu of the
Windows XP and open it.

In the Windows Journal menu bar, find "Import..."
under "File"
-
If you see a file browser, locate your word document and
import it.
B. How to export "Windows Journal document" into "MHTML file
format".

In the Windows Journal menu bar, find "Export As..." under
"File"
-
Now you can save your Journal document as a ".mht" or ".mhtml" document
which will be viewed in Internet Explorer.
C. Another option is to save as a Journal file. This would
provide the ability to do future editing through the Windows Journal on your
tablet.
D. You can open and view Journal files on your desktop by using
a viewer. It is a free download from Microsoft. Go to Microsoft site, download
section, and search for Journal Viewer.

How to submit quizzes
All quizzes will be time activated. Most topics have an
associated quiz. Use the following procedure.

Go to each topic homepage.

Move your mouse cursor or click on the menu named "What
If" in the sidebar and you will find "Quiz" menu.

Click on the Quiz, then you will see a webpage that has a link
to the quiz. Click on the quiz link and it opens the quiz in Journal format.

After taking a quiz, use Save As to save to either the local
machine or memory key. Name your quiz with your login name.

To upload, browse for the file you saved and then click submit
button.

How to download references
Most of hyperlinked documents can be
downloaded. On the tablet PC, you need to open the document and then
save to local machine or to storage device.

How to open a lecture
document
Lectures will be placed in the Course Calendar. Please, find the
date you want in the calendar and click on the link to the Lecture. You
will find other files to be used with the lecture. The Lecture will be in
Journal format. Click the link and the lecture file will open in Windows
Journal.

How to use USB Memory Key
Simply plug it into the USB port of your tablet PC (located at the right side
of the machine) and go to My Computer and you will find a new folder named "USB
MEMORY" in the Devices with Removable Storage. You can use it as a regular
folder.

How to access lecture notes
After class the complete lecture note will be made available on
line. It can be obtained from the menu named "Note" in the class homepage.

How to use the sledgehammer
Start sledgehammer and login using your career account info. There are two
options available.
-
One is a polling option. This allows the instructor to submit a question to the
class and quickly collect the result.
Once the instructor opens the application, students can access the Sledgehammer
Question Queue.

The other option is the “Ask a question” option. This allows the student to
submit questions in class to the instructor.
