About This Site

A large body of research work relevant to the Engineering and Construction technology is generated each year which does not come to the attention of Engineering / Procurement / Construction firms. Since no clearing house activity is available to identify and evaluate this work, its relevance and potential to improve engineering and construction operations are lost. Opportunities are missed not due to the lack of technology, but rather for lack of assessment and appreciation of what is available. The construction industry could profit from knowing more about emerging technologies and their potential.

The Construction Industry Institute (CII) developed through the Research Team 120a the "Emerging Construction Technologies" web site as a method for presenting the findings of the research project in a dynamic and evolving format.

The technologies are divided into five areas: Civil, Mechanical, Internet-based, Electrical, and Other. Each technology is presented in fact sheets describing: The Need, The Technology, The Benefits, Status, Barriers, Points of Contact, and References.
