Joint Transportation Research Program

Welcome

Since its inception in 1937, JTRP, then known as JHRP has continuously conducted meaningful research and relevant extension activities in accordance with its goals. Today it is a national model for the successful partnership of government, academia, and the private sector, combining their efforts in a mutually rewarding research program.

The JTRP mandates include education, and literally hundreds of seminars and programs have been conducted throughout the years to many thousands of people on a variety of topics, thereby bringing successful research to practical implementation and subsequently educating its users. Undergraduate and graduate education initiatives are ongoing as well to promote research-oriented training for tomorrow's transportation professionals.

Research Benefits

The INDOT/JTRP research program is producing results to improve Indiana’s report card through cost effective solutions. The average benefit-cost ratio for nine projects, collectively, is an amazing 59:1. But it is more than just good economics. Research is producing safer highways and construction zones for its customers and workforce, developing longer lasting materials, introducing new technology and processes, and much more.

As you can see, Research Pays Off! Not only does a viable research program pay for itself many times over, but also as transportation industries in Indiana have noted, research is helping their industries to remain competitive as well as improving the quality of life for Indiana’s residents.
